Windsurfing: Felixstowe Dip Wind Direction: ENE Wind Stength: F4 Surf / Sea State: flat / swell Air Temperature: warm Sea Temperature: warm Weather: sunny cloudy Max Speed: 25.61 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 18.3 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Nearly gave up on the day, but a quick text from Ian said it was a go
around 2.30 / 3pm. Colsey and Nick were doing their training runs blasting
downwind and Ian was blasting in kite zone, strange no kites about in the
low tide.
Rigged 146L JP Ex Ride Pro with 8.6 Gaastra Savage, a pretty fantastic
sail, with a brilliant turn of foot. Wind was a steady F4, sea was flat
around kite zone but there was some huge swell, well over 6 foot out to sea
around the river buoy. Did my first speed run straight out of the box, big
adrenalin rush, but went too far. It took ages to beat to kite zone so lost
out on the speed runs. I needed just a few more knots really as I was on
apparent wind sometimes.
Stayed on the deck for the 2 hour session except for some crappy tacks
trying to get back to the kite zone. Had some screaming gybes on the flat
inshore water, but struggled out to sea, in the exceptional big swell, some
even breaking on me. Involuntary jumps were made blasting out to sea after
the downwind drags. I felt fast but the GT31 clocked 25.61 kts best so that
was disappointing, although the speed strip was only 100 metres or so
before the ramps. runs were averaging 24kts so just needed a little more,
especially as I had to be careful to crank upwind after 10 or so secs to
get back to kite zone. Top afternoon and one of my best sails on superb
water surface this year. The sea and the air felt warm, with Nick taking
the pee in a shortie. Same again Sunday hopefully.
